Cegavske: My campaign is about investing in Nevada
I am humbled that the voters of Assembly District 5 and Senate District 8 have elected me to represent them in Carson City for the last 18 years. It's been an honor and a privilege,
and I hope you'll consider my campaign for secretary of state.
The office consists of eight divisions. My focus in this letter will be the business and elections aspects. It is my goal to make Nevada the premier state in the country to do business, because more businesses means more jobs.
During the last eight years, the number of businesses starting in Nevada has steadily declined, as has the number of businesses renewing their licenses. As secretary of state, I consider
it my duty to clear the path for innovation and work on recruiting
businesses which will create jobs here in Nevada.
My campaign is focused on how to grow business, investing in the best and brightest by encouraging innovation and new ideas.
• The Secretary of State's Office needs to be a one-stop shop for businesses. It is my goal to enhance the business website and create a comprehensive online business portal that interfaces with all licensing authorities and local governments.
• As your secretary of state, I will provide our job creators with a firm commitment that Nevada stands solidly behind them. Higher taxes and more regulations will not produce a stable business environment.
• As your secretary of state, I will work to increase the number of business licenses in Nevada as opposed to increasing the license fees. I will strongly advocate policies that expand the number of companies and individuals choosing to operate in Nevada.
• As your secretary of state, I will work with the various Nevada licensing boards and the Legislature to review time requirements, fees, and consolidation of licensing requirements to
conduct business in Nevada.
My campaign will also focus on maintaining the integrity of our election laws.
Having served as a member of the Legislative Operations & Elections Committee from 2003 to the current time, as well as chairing the committee in 2005 and 2007, I am committed to upholding our election laws. Ensuring the integrity of the elections in the state is a key component of the secretary of state's duties.
I believe my qualifications, proven record of leadership and fairness, certifies my ability to oversee elections in accordance with existing statutes.
I will encourage active participation of all voters in the democratic process. I authored Senate Bill 163, which mandates civics as part of the school curriculum, in the hopes that future generations will not only be aware of the importance of their civic duties, but will become
